Souverän is the classic from Pelikan. The production of the tortoiseshell casing is subject to a complex process, because according to a recipe specially developed for Pelikan, a striped piece of material is made from cotton in many steps, which is bent and then cut to shape with a diamond. The special feature of the tortoiseshell material lies in the slight transparency of the material and in the various color nuances that give the material its shimmering effect. The gold-plated rings on the upper and lower sections are fitted with the utmost precision before the writing instrument is polished to a high gloss. The slightly springy, typical Pelikan beak clip gives this high-quality writing instrument its unmistakable design. The Souverän D400 mechanical pencil is equipped with a 0.7mm thick hi-polymer lead.
